I just watched the movie “Mademoiselle C,” which is about Carine Roitfeld’s journey in creating the CR Fashion Book. Carine was a former model, a consultant for Tom Ford and Gucci, and the editor of Vogue Paris from 2001 to 2011. After leaving Vogue in 2011, she decided to start her fashion book.
The movie is similar to “The September Issue,” giving a behind-the-scenes look at how a magazine is made. I always find these kinds of documentaries fascinating. However, it’s clear that “Mademoiselle C” was made to promote the fashion book and is very flattering towards Carine Roitfeld, offering little criticism. Unlike “The September Issue,” which didn’t shy away from showing some less flattering moments of Anna Wintour, this movie portrays Carine in a consistently positive light.
It might just be that Carine is a genuinely nicer person to work with. She comes across as kind, fun, and energetic—the type of person you’d want to spend time with. At 59, she is vibrant and full of life. The film gives some insight into her personal life and what motivates her, along with appearances by her famous friends. Overall, I enjoyed watching it.
Carine Roitfeld is an incredibly stylish woman in her late 50s who has a deep passion for fashion. She often lands on best-dressed lists and continues to inspire designers. After watching the movie, I noticed that she sticks to a consistent style—a simple yet sophisticated look of a straight skirt paired with a short or tucked-in blouse. This is an easy style to replicate and is a great way to look chic and a bit sexy at 40+. I think I might start incorporating it into my wardrobe more often.
Are you a fan of Carine Roitfeld? What do you think of her style, particularly the look of a straight skirt with a blouse?
