Happy 2017! Are you ready to make it your best, most stylish year yet? I always find the end of the year is a great time to think about what went well and what could be better. I like to jot down my goals for the new year, both personal and professional.
Sometimes, I pick one word to focus on for the year, but I’m running a little late on that this time. One word I’m considering is “connection.” Living abroad with constantly changing surroundings makes it hard to find my “home” and “tribe.” My busy work schedule offers lots of online connections, but offline connections can be tricky. I also seek connection through travel and meeting people in person who I initially met online, a practice I plan to continue.
For 2017, I want to build a stronger community around 40+Style and 40+Entrepreneur. The creation of the 40+Style Club is one step toward deeper connections and closer relationships.
Another word that’s significant to me is “freedom,” which is a core part of everything I do, though it feels more like a life motto than a yearly focus.
Words like “contentment,” “gratitude,” and “enjoyment” are also strong contenders. I sometimes forget to appreciate all the good in my life, especially after a tumultuous year like 2016. It’s important to enjoy leisure moments and the process of meaningful work.
Other words I’m thinking about are “focus,” “delegation,” and “growth.” I still care deeply about my websites and projects and want to grow the communities I’ve started. That said, I know I tend to take on too much, so focusing on simplification and delegation might be essential to keep things manageable. This is challenging because there’s still so much I want to do and explore.
If I were to focus solely on style, my word would likely be “simplify.” Lately, I’ve been drawn to simple but unique pieces and like the idea of a wardrobe where many items work well together. The goal is to build a solid foundation and accent it with seasonal statement pieces. You can learn more about this process in my How to Build a Wardrobe series.
So, what’s your focus for this year? If you had to choose one word for the entire year, what would it be? And if you had to pick a word for your style, what would that be?
