As you might know, I’ve been working on editing my closet. I’m happy to report that I’ve already donated many items. My once massive pile of t-shirts has significantly decreased, and I’ve gotten rid of clothes that no longer fit my style.
However, there’s still more to do. I have a lot of clothes I rarely wear, mainly because I’ve shifted to a dressier style. But there are times when casual wear is needed. So, the challenge is deciding how much to keep and what to get rid of.
Here’s what I did to fine-tune my closet: I have a bunch of casual wear that I barely wear anymore, like slacks, baggy jeans, and casual skirts. But items like khaki jeans can be handy for activities like walking or quick errands, like picking up my kid from school.
Today, I had just such an errand, and it was the perfect opportunity to wear my seldom-used casual clothes. This was my chance to ‘test’ whether these items should stay in my closet. I wore some of the questionable pieces to see how I felt in them.
It became clear that I didn’t enjoy wearing these particular casual clothes, even for a casual day. This is the best indicator that these clothes no longer belong in my wardrobe. You should only keep garments that you love and that make you feel good.
This process also helps you fine-tune your style. From my test, I discovered:
– I don’t like dressing too casually, even for casual settings.
– My casual clothes should have cleaner lines and be less baggy.
– I no longer enjoy tight standard t-shirts, even if they look nice.
Repeating this process a few times can give you insights into your evolving style and help make your wardrobe more manageable.
In conclusion, this is a great final test to decide if clothes should stay or go. Wear your questionable items on occasions for which you kept them, and if they don’t make you feel good, it’s time to let them go.
What’s your take on this? Do you think this is a reasonable approach?
