One of the reasons I created this site is to highlight women over 40 in fashion. The fashion industry and fashion blogs usually focus on very young, slim women, while women over 40 are often overlooked. Thankfully, brands are starting to recognize the value of this growing demographic, and we’re seeing more women over 40 in advertisements. For example, Demi Moore for Ann Taylor, Lauren Hutton for Alexis Bittar, and Julienne Moore for Talbots. Yet, there’s still so much more potential we can tap into.
So, my two photography-loving friends, Sabine and Anja, and I decided to do our own little fashion shoot at an almost deserted theme park in Singapore. This park, which Anja has written a lot about, is full of vibrant colors and statues—perfect for trying out some ‘real’ fashion shots. We wore our most colorful and bold outfits, had a blast, and learned a lot about photography and posing, even though the lighting wasn’t ideal. Our photos are full of color, not subdued at all!
Lady In The Red Dress
Here’s a photo of me in a red hat and dress. Sadly, I don’t have the brand details because I discarded the tags before making a note of them.
The Purple Lady
Though I usually don’t dress as vibrantly as I did for these photos, my friend Anja always looks colorful and fabulously accessorized. She’s stunning in her purple dress paired with an Asian-inspired pink jacket.
Beautiful In A Sari
Sabine usually prefers being behind the camera, but here she is looking absolutely gorgeous in a turquoise sari.
Color Blocking: Red And Blue
I’m also doing some color blocking with a blue silk dress from Alldressedup, paired with a little red hat and red shoes. I think some of these pictures turned out really nice.
Color Blocking: Red And Purple
Anja is showcasing color blocking too, with red and purple, plus my red hat. Sabine added some extra-long scarves for a dramatic touch.
Flower Drama
Here I am in a colorful summer dress, and for even more drama, I’m wearing a mask!
Overall, it was an amazing day. A big thank you to Sabine and Anja for the photos and posing!
What do you think about the colors, the outfits, the photos? Do we need more women over 40 in magazines and ads?
