Embracing Vibrant Red for Chinese New Year Celebrations

This week in Singapore was special as we celebrated Chinese New Year. Anja and I decided to take a stroll through Chinatown, and here’s what we wore.

I chose a bright red and orange dress that I picked up at Club 21’s annual warehouse sale. It’s one of my favorites because it ticks all the boxes for what I consider a great dress – it’s made of natural silk, it’s colorful, and it has unique draping and asymmetric design elements. While the draping can add a bit of bulk and isn’t conventionally flattering, I think it adds to the dress’s edgy charm. I can wear it loose or with a belt, and I prefer it with a belt. The ‘belt’ is actually a piece of leather string with beads that I’ve had forever, and it matches the dress perfectly.

Anja wore a green top, gifted by the fabulous Greetje, paired with her signature prints and a printed bag. Since it’s the Year of the Horse, we saw lots of horse-themed decorations, which felt special to me as the Horse is my Chinese zodiac sign.

Chinatown was bustling, even more so than usual for this festive time of year. I think I’ll avoid the area during public holidays in the future! After navigating through the lively streets, we relaxed at the modern and beautifully designed ParkRoyal hotel. It was wonderful to unwind with a nice cup of green tea.
