Evolving Styles Over the Years and My Beloved Blue Charleston Dress

Evolving Styles Over the Years and My Beloved Blue Charleston Dress

Do you have a favorite fashion decade? I’m not really tied to any specific era, but I enjoy elements from each one. Here’s a quick breakdown of what I like from each decade:

1920s: The styles were fun and mysterious with straight, comfy dresses and dropped waistlines. I wear this look quite often.

1930s: Nothing from this decade really catches my eye.

1940s: I appreciate the old Hollywood glam with its focus on the waist and fitted skirts. It’s stylish but often too uncomfortable for me to be a favorite.

1950s: Wide skirts and rock and roll were big. I wear wide skirts occasionally, but always like to mix things up a bit.

1960s: The minis and bold colors were great, though many of the looks don’t suit me now. I do love 60s furniture and have it all over my house.

1970s: Bohemian and hippy styles defined this era, which isn’t really my thing, although I do like wide-legged pants.

1980s: I wouldn’t bring back shoulder pads, but I do admire structured blazers.

1990s: Grunge, denim, and street style were popular. I enjoy wearing jeans sometimes, but I generally prefer to dress up a bit more.

I take inspiration from a mix of decades rather than sticking to just one. For this post, I leaned towards the 1920s. When I want something comfortable, fun, and fashionable, I often go for what I call my “Charleston dress.” It reminds me of the twenties and makes me feel like dancing, even though I don’t actually know the dance!

This dress is a full jersey piece I picked up in Amsterdam from a local shop. I’ve removed the brand label, so I don’t know where it’s from. It has my favorite features like asymmetry, with the back looking totally different from the front.

What I love most about this dress is how comfortable it is. You can move, dance, jump, or even run a marathon in it. I usually pair it with these flat shoes I bought in Tuscany during a holiday two years ago.

The playful jewelry adds a splash of color to the outfit. I bought the pieces at a market in Shanghai, where the jewelry is very affordable.

So, what’s your favorite fashion decade?
