There are plenty of reasons why I love blogging as my profession, but one of the best parts is the friendships and connections you build with other bloggers and readers. Sometimes, these connections go beyond the virtual world. For instance, I met reader Lorraine in Singapore and have previously met bloggers Lisa and Stephanie.
This week, Suzanne Carillo, a blogger, came to visit. She didn’t just meet me but also my blogging pals Anja and Greetje. We’re having a great time! We’ve been hanging out together, making videos (more on that later), and I also got to spend some one-on-one time with Suzanne.
I took Suzanne around Amsterdam, especially the Jordaan area and the ‘nine streets,’ which is a beautiful spot filled with unique little shops. My friend Greetje has even written a wonderful report about it. The area is surrounded by canals, which offer perfect photo opportunities.
I wore my colorful Preen skirt, which I showed you a few days ago, paired with an airy fuchsia blouse I bought locally and some flat shoes for comfort while walking around the city. Suzanne went for color too, in a lovely flowy floral dress, comfy shoes, and a light straw hat.
One of the new shops we discovered was Mendo, an amazing bookstore that sells huge coffee table books on fashion and design. It’s a must-see for fashion lovers. Suzanne tried on a gorgeous dress there, but it was just a tiny bit too small for her. She looked great in it, though!
Of course, we didn’t just shop; we did some sightseeing too. Here’s Suzanne in front of the Paleis op de Dam, where our new king was recently crowned. When bloggers who have known each other online for years finally meet in real life, it’s all hugs and laughter. Pictured here is Greetje from No Fear of Fashion.
Greetje joined us for dinner after work, and we chatted until we couldn’t chat anymore. Meeting up with people you’ve only known online can be a bit risky since you don’t really know them in person. But after connecting on an almost daily basis, it feels like you know them well.
Suzanne was exactly as I imagined and even more. We had so much fun and great conversations. We still have one more day to enjoy together in Amsterdam with the four of us. Stay tuned for more reports, videos, and photos soon!
Have you ever met up with friends you’ve only known online? How did it go for you?
