Mastering Winter Layering: My Personal Experience in the Netherlands

During my recent trip to The Netherlands, it was quite cold, especially since I’m used to warm tropical climates year-round. To stay warm, I layered up with cozy wool fabrics and knee-high boots.

I’ve previously shown you my asymmetrical vest, but this time, I styled it differently by tying it with a fabric belt. Underneath, I wore a singlet and an old wool turtleneck sweater. I paired them with my comfortable corduroy skinny jeans from Uniqlo and my custom-made black boots.

To add extra warmth, I included a silk scarf from my early workdays and a hat. Indoors, this combination was enough to keep me cozy. For going outside, I added my grey coat from Zara. On milder days, the silk scarf alone was sufficient.

There were many times I needed my heavy-duty winter gear, like my beloved blanket scarf, which led me to buy another one because I loved the colors so much. Regarding my boots, although my friend Greetje keeps suggesting I buy new ones, I stick with my custom-made pair because they fit perfectly, are super comfortable, and are still in good condition.

While my boots aren’t perfect, they work well enough since I only need them once a year. This winter trip was a good time to experiment with winter fashion and layering, making it enjoyable thanks to my well-thought-out winter capsule wardrobe combined with pieces I still had in The Netherlands.

Here’s what I wore:
– Black skinnies: Uniqlo (old)
– Silk scarf: Daniel Hechter (old)
– Grey coat: Zara
– Grey sleeveless long vest: Stella Carakasi
– Cream sweater: unknown brand (old)
– Blanket scarf: Zara
– Hat: bought somewhere in The Netherlands (old)
– Boots: custom-made in Shanghai 9 years ago
