This month, I’m all about leather! I’ve wanted to rock some leather pieces for a while, but Singapore’s hot climate made it impossible to find the right items. Luckily, I’ve finally found what I needed.
The first outfit I’m sharing is a party look for a 50th wedding anniversary. I shopped my closet and picked out my burgundy Porto dress, which has a nice wintery color and is made of a thick fabric—perfect for colder weather. I’ve worn this dress before and always felt great in it.
Since I was in the Netherlands, I needed to make it winter-ready. My initial plan was to pair it with my old custom-made brown boots, but they were back in the Netherlands, and I was still in Singapore. So, I brought along my fuchsia pumps as a backup. Next, I needed a jacket to keep me warm. When I saw this leather jacket at Massimo Dutti, I fell in love—the color was almost identical to my dress, creating a chic monochrome look (though paired with brown boots).
To break up the solid color, I added a beautiful scarf gifted to me by Suzanne, which brightened up my face. Once I got to the Netherlands, I tried the outfit with my brown boots, but it felt too casual. The fuchsia shoes looked better, but my tights were too thick and not ideal.
I hoped to find some stylish booties to complete the look. Fortunately, I spotted the perfect pair on sale! The heels were a bit higher than I’d usually go for, but they were comfortable thanks to the platform. I also never thought I’d buy printed tights, but when I saw these, I had to try them. They worked beautifully with the monochrome outfit, adding a festive touch.
And voilà, my final party outfit! Maybe it was a bit edgy for the event (with most guests being 70+), but hey, I’m a fashionista now, so why not show it off? I know the flower scarf and tights might have been a bit much, and leather could be seen as too edgy or not chic enough for the crowd. Printed tights aren’t everyone’s favorite either (as some Facebook comments suggested).
However, I felt fantastic in the outfit. The luxury of leather and silk around my neck was just right (and I needed the jacket since it was chilly). The tights added an extra flair, and although some people raised their eyebrows at my high heels (which aren’t typically popular among the 50+ crowd in the Netherlands), I felt happy, beautiful, modern, and comfortable. The photos were taken the following day, so my hair looked better then!
I stuck with my personal style (modern freedom) and felt confident standing out from the crowd. That’s all you really want from a party outfit, right?
How do you prepare and dress for parties? Do you usually come up with something you’re happy with?
