Sporting a Unique Black Dress at the London 2012 Olympic Games!

The Olympics are still going strong, but I just got back from my trip to London. It was a packed week full of amazing Olympic events and sightseeing. I wore a new dress I bought in The Netherlands, which someone on Facebook actually thought were pants. Here are some better pictures of the dress and my impressions of London.

You can’t see it in this photo, but the dress has a jersey top and a rippled cotton fabric at the bottom. It reminded me of Issey Miyake’s designs, particularly Japanese style. The rippled effect is sewn into the fabric, which I love because it keeps its unique texture.

The dress has an unusual shape, and while it might not be the most flattering, I like its distinct look. This dress, along with a red one I haven’t shown yet, inspired me to write about whether you always need to choose flattering shapes. I took a risk with this dress, but I think it’s still flattering in its way. I understand it may not be for everyone.

In Singapore, I might wear it on its own, but I actually like pairing it with a top. This is a wrap-around top that can be tied with buttons at the top of each arm. I only fastened one button this time and let the other hang loose. The top comes with an attached belt, giving me plenty of styling options, so you’ll likely see more of it!

As for the shoes, don’t mind them. When traveling, shoes need to be comfortable for long distances. These were the best I had, though I did buy some more elegant alternatives for Singapore. And while you’re ignoring things, let’s also ignore my hair…

I met a delightful couple on the street who looked fantastic—what a great way to brighten up London streets! I also saw a unique, old-fashioned one-person car and had to snap some photos, even chatting with the owner. He and his wife each have one and enjoy cruising around London in them. I can’t quite remember what they’re called!

That evening, we visited BT London Life in Hyde Park, where we saw the legendary ice skating duo Torvill & Dean, who won the 1984 Olympics with their performance to The Bolero. Remember that?

We enjoyed great music on stage that night and caught some highlights from the day’s sports events. It was a lot of fun!

So, what do you think of my unusual dress? Are you enjoying the Olympics?
