The Ultimate Guide to Dressing with Confidence – What Truly Makes a Difference

What do we really want from our clothes? We want to feel confident so we can achieve our goals. In this article, we’ll explore how to feel confident in your clothes and just be yourself.

How To Feel Confident?

If you’ve been following my articles on feeling better, you know everything we desire is because of how it makes us feel. Many women want to feel more confident and use clothing to achieve that. I’ve shared numerous tips on styling clothes in a way that boosts confidence by creating flattering outfits.

I’ve discussed how to dress according to your personality so you feel more like yourself, which naturally boosts confidence. While I’ve touched on building self-confidence, I haven’t specifically focused on how your clothes can play a role. My style course has also helped many women gain confidence.

Today, I’m diving into how to feel confident in your clothes and the single most crucial factor for achieving that.

How To Feel Confident In Your Clothes

Let’s start with some questions: Why is style important to you? Why do you think clothes can make you more confident? Before your next shopping spree, ask yourself why you want that new item. Do you truly need it, or is there another reason?

Dig deeper and ask yourself why it’s important to have clothes you like. Your answers might include wanting to look good, feel like yourself, or receive compliments. But why do these things matter? Often, it boils down to a desire to feel confident, beautiful, or important.

You may have compelling reasons to want confidence—like finding a new partner, landing a new job, making friends, or enjoying a night out without feeling insecure. The reason you care about your appearance is that you believe it will lead to positive outcomes.

As I’ve explained in my article on feeling good, you can feel confident right now without perfect clothes. Your feelings originate in your mind, not from any object or outfit.

How Do You Get The Feeling Of Confidence From Your Clothes?

If you realized that you want to feel more confident, you can choose to feel that way right now. However, it can be challenging if your reflection doesn’t match your expectations. You might put on a dress and feel anything but confident because of the negative thoughts running through your head.

You might think, “This dress doesn’t suit me,” or “I look too big in this dress,” or worry about what others think. These thoughts make you feel insecure. When you feel insecure, you compare yourself to others, spend hours on hair and makeup, and possibly continue shopping for other options. However, without changing your initial thoughts, you still won’t feel confident.

Confidence and thoughts are closely linked. Another person in the same dress might look amazing simply because she believes she looks amazing, which exudes confidence.

It’s the same dress and the same body, but one woman looks fabulous and confident while the other doesn’t. The difference lies in their thoughts.

It might happen with a dress you felt good in before but now don’t. What has changed? Perhaps fewer compliments or a bout of self-consciousness has made you doubt the dress. The only thing that’s changed is your thought about the dress.

This applies to our bodies too! Changing a negative thought about your body can transform your confidence.

How Do You Get Confident In Your Clothes?

I can give you all the style advice in the world, but confidence only comes if you can look in the mirror and sincerely think, “I look great in this dress.” Your thoughts about yourself in the dress determine your confidence.

When doubts arise, question them: Are they true? Is the dress really to blame? Or do other thoughts about yourself cause the insecurity?

Unless you tackle the underlying issues and change the stories you tell yourself, you’ll continue to struggle with confidence in your clothes.

It all starts with a thought. Change your thoughts, and if you believe them, you can change your feelings and your outcome. This isn’t easy but is a skill you can learn. I’ll discuss this further in future articles and podcasts.

When you master this skill, you’ll feel happier and more confident in your clothes without rushing to stores for a confidence boost. I often wear minimal makeup and the same dress frequently. I plan to live with a small wardrobe as I travel more, and still, I will feel confident because it’s not the clothes but my thoughts about them that matter.
