Sheer fabrics were all over the runways in New York, London, Milan, and Paris, so why wait? Let’s start wearing them now! And guess what? Women over 40 can totally rock this trend too.
I’ve featured this skirt on the site before, but never really showcased it properly. It’s over 10 years old, bought in Australia, and I think it’s perfect for the new sheer trend. You might not see it clearly in the outdoor photos, but this skirt is actually quite sheer. There’s a diagonal mini-skirt underneath that adds interest and fits my love for asymmetry. This mini-skirt just about covers my bum!
This outfit proves that women over 40 can enjoy the sheer trend in a sophisticated way. There are plenty of classy options for sheer tops, but as you can see, skirts can be just as stylish. This knee-length skirt is very flattering and ladylike, while the sheer fabric and diagonal under-skirt add a touch of sexiness and flair.
I first tried the skirt with my open-toe pumps but felt that look was too formal. The shoes I’m wearing now give the outfit a more modern vibe, along with my contemporary watch. The skirt is super comfortable since it’s knitted and not tight at all. It’s perfect for layering with dresses too, like I showed in my article about wearing short dresses after 40.
If you’re a regular reader, you might recognize both these pieces. I’ve worn the top and skirt before. This outfit is a great example of how you don’t need to run to the stores to stay trendy. Often, you can just shop from your own wardrobe!
