Ever since I started this website, I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about my personal style and wardrobe. Interestingly, during this period, I haven’t bought any new clothes.
Analyzing Your Style and Wardrobe
Instead of rushing out to buy the newest trends, I delved into my closet to explore its potential. Here are a few things I’ve discovered:
I began mixing and matching pieces I already own, finding new ways to wear items that I hadn’t used in a while. This approach has helped me create fresh outfits without spending money.
I considered what message I wanted my clothes to convey by looking at timeless style icons. I realized that some of my clothes fit into this timeless category, and I could pair them with more trendy items for a balanced look.
This process has been enjoyable, as I keep discovering new combinations and ideas for outfits whenever I go out.
I’ve also gotten a clearer idea of what’s missing from my wardrobe.
One practical exercise is cutting out or displaying pictures of favorite styles. While I do this on my website, you can easily make collages or inspiration boards at home.
This method is effective because:
– It prevents impulse purchases. Since you’ve done your research, you clearly know what you want.
– Waiting before buying helps distinguish which styles you truly love from those that might just be fleeting trends.
– Repeatedly seeing a certain style in your inspiration photos helps you identify the key pieces you should invest in.
Conclusion
I’m sure I’ll eventually get something new, but for now, I’m happy with just rethinking my style and clothes. Rather than leading to more purchases and a bigger obsession with fashion, this approach results in more selective and thoughtful choices. This ultimately saves money, time, and frustration while helping me look more stylish. If you’re interested, check out my series on finding your style.
