We all know that having close friends is super important, but they might not be the best advisors when it comes to your style. If you ask for their opinion about an outfit, they’ll try their best to help, but that advice might not always be right for you.
I’ve previously mentioned how my blogger friends suggested I wear more figure-flattering clothes. While they might have a point, if you don’t feel like yourself in those clothes, their advice isn’t right, and you should ignore it.
Here’s another example: When you’re shopping with a friend and try on something they love, they might encourage you to buy it. You might be unsure, but with their enthusiasm, you decide to go for it. Sometimes this works, but often these purchases reflect their style more than yours, and you might never wear those items.
Shopping with friends can be fun, but it can also lead to buying the wrong things. Always keep your own do and don’t lists in mind!
My friend Greetje recently asked her readers for feedback on her outfits to know which ones were outdated or didn’t suit her and which ones were still good. What happened was that she received a lot of different opinions, which just made things more confusing for her. Most people could only agree on one outfit not looking good on her. This showed that style is very subjective, and in the end, only Greetje can decide if something fits her style and makes her feel great.
That’s why it’s so important to be clear about your own style preferences!
Getting advice and shopping with friends can be enjoyable. They might give you a fresh perspective and encourage you to try things you hadn’t considered before. I definitely get influenced by my friends and sometimes adjust my style preferences.
But remember, they might also lead you in the wrong direction because everyone has their own taste, and their opinions will be influenced by their own preferences. No one is better at judging your outfits than you. Your outfit should match your style, your preferences, your body, and your personality, and most importantly, make you happy!
