I absolutely love good photography, and I’m always striving to offer you high-quality photos on this site. I’m constantly working on my self-portrait photography skills to show you my outfits, but there’s nothing quite like collaborating with a great photographer. That’s why I was thrilled when Juha Sompinmäki agreed to do a photoshoot for this blog.
We picked Singapore’s Arab Quarter as our location and I brought along two outfits with a few accessories. Today, I’m showcasing one of those outfits featuring new clothes I snagged at the huge Club 21 sale last month. This outfit is less colorful compared to the other one, which had some styling issues. I’ll share that outfit with you next week. It was a scorching day with bright sun, making it tricky to get good shots. Despite that, I’m really happy with how the photos turned out, and working with Juha was a joy.
If you’ve been following my blog, you might notice this outfit was inspired by my personal challenge to wear three colors and one print or two colors and two prints. You’ll see these combinations reflected in this outfit. Black and white is an easy base to add another color or pattern to!
Another theme for this photoshoot was “dandy chic.” I adore masculine styles with a feminine twist and wanted to share outfits featuring blazers that work in cooler climates. I rarely get to wear these in Singapore because it’s so hot, but I love the dandy vibe with an elegant, feminine touch. I even painted my nails with a cracked black and white design for the occasion!
Although wearing white pants in winter might not be ideal, you could swap them for black pants and add a colorful blazer instead. There are countless ways to introduce color to a black-and-white outfit—think hats, scarves, cardigans, sunglasses, belts, shoes, or a colorful necklace like the one I’m wearing.
In this outfit, I added another color with my versatile Heleen van der Meer bag. Here are the outfit details:
– Blouse: Donna Karen
– Pants: Houssein Chalayan
– Jacket: CK Calvin Klein
– Necklace: Alldressedup
– Ring: Lindy McLarty
– Shoes: Kenneth Cole
– Belt: Anne Fontaine
– Sunglasses: Burberry
Keep in mind, even though some items are new to me, they’re from older collections (thanks to warehouse sales), so they’re probably not in stores anymore.
The response to my dressing challenge has been amazing! Many women have joined in, sharing their outfits via email or our style forum. Yesterday, I met some readers at a fashion event who had incorporated the challenge into their outfits. Some of you have been experimenting at home, having fun, and discovering new looks in your wardrobe. I’ll be showcasing all your fabulous creations on Wednesday, and there’s still time to send me your outfits if you want to be featured.
I hope you had fun with fashion this weekend!
